Incentivising supervised births

Mola foundation is getting mothers safely into health centres for supervised births — and the results are saving lives.

Our projects

A diverse group of three adults, two men and one woman, inside a room, with the woman holding a newborn baby wrapped in pink. The woman is smiling and sitting on a bench, while the man in the leather jacket sitting next to her is smiling with a leg cast. The third person, a woman in a blue uniform, is standing and holding a basket of colorful clothes and garments.

We provided running water, solar lights and structural renovations to Movi, Monono, Wangoi (Chuave district), Gomgale, Dirima, Neragaima, Boromil (Gumine district), Kup, Bogo, Miunde, Maki, Kangir and Golgmei (Kerowaghi district), Pari, Denglagu (Gembogl district), Mai, Emimau (SSY district).

We also provided baby bundles and food rations (brown rice, tins of tuna, teabags, sugar, biscuits) for birthing mothers so that they can wait around for their labor to begin.

Enga Health Facilities

We supported facilities in Yampu (Catholic agency facility) and Kompiam (Baptist church agency facility).

Currently it costs about K30,000 (AUD 10,000) per year to support a rural health center in PNG to provide quality maternal and newborn care. Our goal is to extend our programs to a further 9 rural health facilities in Simbu and then to other provinces, with the hope of saving an additional 25 newborns and 2-3 mothers per year. We need your help.
